Not a coder, but want to build something amazing using technology?

Join LaunchCode, GlobalHack and The Prosper Institute on Saturday, August 13, 2016 for a beginner-friendly event where you’ll work in teams over the course of a day to design an app or website that solves a real-world problem. You’ll use prototyping tools, drag and drop editors, mockups, and anything else you think of to visually present your idea to the community. Participants will work in small teams (up to 4) and will have ~6 hours to prototype your idea and present it on stage. During the event, you’ll learn how to use industry design tools, network with like-minded people with diverse backgrounds, and work to solve a real-world problem as a small group. This event requires no coding experience, and is open to individuals of all skill sets and backgrounds.

Frequently Asked
QUestions (FAQ)

What is A Hackathon?

A hackathon is an event where people collaboratively work on technology projects over a short period of time.

What do I need to bring with me?

You will need to bring a laptop or computer with you to this event. In the case that you do not have one, we will loan out a small number of laptops for participants to use for the duration of the hackathon. We also provide food, space, and wifi.

Do I need to come with a team?

You do not! Individuals are more than welcome to sign up without a pre-formed team. There will be opportunities to form a team the morning of the actual event.

What does my Admission Cover?

Your ticket includes (3) meals, snacks, drinks, and admission to the hackathon.

What project will we be working on during the hackathon?

In an effort to keep things fair at the event, we will be announcing the community problem you will be solving the morning of the event.

What will my team produce?

We don’t expect teams to produce any functional app or software. You will be creating and designing your solutions using online tools that don’t require any sort of experience in computer programming.

How much coding experience do I need to participate?

None! This is a code-free hackathon, so you’ll be using publicly available software to design your solution without needing a single line of code. We’ll email you a list of resources before the event so you can familiarize yourself with some of the tools teams will be using.

How do teams work?

Teams are composed of four (4) participants. It’s not necessary for you to sign up with a team, we’ll automatically assign you to one the morning of the event. This will be a great way for you to network and work alongside others on their journey to learning more about computer programming.

Are there Prizes?

While we want the focus at the hackathon to be on learning and building new ideas, we’re putting together a few, fun prize packages for the top teams, including a People’s Choice award decided by our Hello! Hackathon participations (i.e. you). We’ll announce all of these prizes at the beginning of the event.

Hello, Hackathon! will take place in the LaunchCode Mentor Center which is located on Delmar Blvd near the Central West End. Parking (open lot) is conveniently located directly next to the Center.
